More AI search links: can your Hong Kong website complete the handoff?
A visitor arriving from an AI answer may already want to book an appointment, find a branch or download a manual. Sending that visitor to a polished company homepage can still leave the original job unfinished. The useful question is not only whether a website received a link, but whether the destination delivers what that link appears to offer.
For a Hong Kong business, the practical priority is continuity between the question, the destination and the next action. The method below is YUSIHK’s suggested website acceptance approach. It is not a formula for selection by Google or a report of customer results.
More links and a tested official-site display are different changes
Google’s 15 October 2026 announcement describes changes to links within AI answers and a test highlighting official websites for particular tasks. A test is not confirmation that every Hong Kong account can access the same display.
Adding markup does not guarantee selection. Google’s guidance for AI features continues to point website owners towards established SEO foundations, rather than a required special schema. Our English Google SEO guide covers that foundation. Here, the focus is what happens after someone chooses a website link.
Choose a destination around a job, not around the homepage
Consider a hypothetical service company with home visits and branch appointments. A person asks whether Saturday repairs can be booked in Tsuen Wan. A homepage saying “professional service across Hong Kong” does not answer the branch, service and time constraints. This is an illustrative scenario, not an observed Google result or customer incident.
The appropriate destination might be an existing branch repair-booking page. It should explain eligibility, the information needed and how an appointment becomes confirmed. A general contact button does not resolve those questions by itself.
Nor does every phrasing need a new URL. Improve an existing destination when it can support the job; consider a separate page only when the information and action genuinely differ. The service structure described in our English SEO offering provides a broader starting point for that decision.
Match the link label, the first clear heading and the action
A link promising an appointment should not stop at a brand story. Have the person responsible for service delivery state the promise the business can actually fulfil. Then compare that promise with the destination heading and the process behind its button.
| Visitor’s job | What the destination needs to establish | What is not completion |
|---|---|---|
| Book at a particular branch | Address, eligible service, available choices and confirmation method | Opening WhatsApp |
| Obtain a product manual | Model, version, language and the actual file | Downloading an incompatible edition |
| Compare a service quotation | Inclusions, limits and the information required for a quote | Treating a starting price as a final quotation |
This is a website acceptance aid, not a Google scoring system. Walking one useful route end to end is more informative than adding a vague “learn more” link to every page.
Preserve language and location through the handoff
A Traditional Chinese page can explain a service accurately, yet hand off to a form that defaults to an overseas region. The English journey can fail in the reverse direction. Inspect the route from article to service page to form or external contact tool, including the return path.
When a URL moves, Google’s redirect documentation helps distinguish implementation choices. A successful HTTP response still does not establish that the correct branch, product or language survived the journey. The English search-snippet preview tool can help review a page’s wording, but cannot test a redirect or complete a task; a person should also follow the visible steps on a phone. Do not submit personal information, send messages or change account settings without permission.
Measure arrival separately from a completed job
An outbound contact click, a successfully received form and a confirmed appointment have different meanings. If an external tool supplies no reliable completion signal, record opening that tool rather than calling it a sale. Likewise, distinguish an attempted form submission from server acceptance and subsequent business confirmation.
Search Console can help observe the website pages involved, but ordinary Web performance should not simply be renamed as the performance of a particular AI display. The English GSC Connect guide explains the data workflow; it does not create an AI citation count that the source has not supplied. This announcement alone establishes no traffic recovery for an individual Hong Kong business.
Let the next unanswered customer question set the repair order
Choose a service for which people still need to ask support a basic follow-up. Is the missing answer a location, supported model or confirmation step? Add that answer to the closest useful existing destination, explain exclusions and make it possible to report a broken path.
Then review the quality of enquiries and trustworthy completion signals for that route. Article volume alone cannot show that the job became easier. Our English GEO service explanation places this work in its wider search context. To discuss a specific gap, contact YUSIHK with the starting URL, intended action and step that fails.
